Dust Up and Gather Round:

*To the Stakeholders to which there are many, of the once Largest Town in Canada, that being Our's, "Glace Bay", I present a most Unique, Challenging, Exciting, and Positive Oportunity, to reflect and project into the Summer of 2014 and beyond.
Conceptually, now coined as the "Coal Town Classic Reunion Festival", My aim is to provide to you and each and every resident, and former resident, the reflective embrace , and 'into the moment endearment', of what our celebrated History, still means to us today.
Glace Bay, Our town! has been through some lean and difficult times since the end of the Coal years passed. Gone but not forgotten are the Good years, the Great years, when we shone through the haze of Coal dust and were mantled high atop the ladder of, Big Town Canada. I believe Our pride and determination still dwells deep down in our hearts and Souls, and it is High time we brought that spirit, back to the surface ,where it will shine again! Wind that Bullwheel of Strength all the way up to the Bankhead, display it in a spirit of full Community participation and work together , co-operatively, like never before and "Celebrate".
From all corners of Our now amalgamated Historical Hamlet, it would be Our time to Shine. With the era of Big Coal ,for the most part behind us for almost 15 years now, and with the impending New beginning of the next generation, (i.e.Donkin), we need to be cognizant of our past , seize the oportunity, and again....pause to reflect, and Celebrate..!
Our Town,Glace Bay, and Our people, where ever they are, home and away, with solid planning, want and seek to return to our Town, in a mood of Reflection, Reconnection, and Re-patriation.
In 2010, I spearheaded a Group responsible for The GlaceBay Fence-Folks Reunion, which drew, from those at home and former ex-patriates, back to the core of our Town, in celebration of our Youth and Boomer years, to great success.
As a result, we not only had an ultimate rendezvous with the past, we enlivened the Town of Glace Bay with over a thousand people, all of whom paricipated in and added to the Economic center of Business and Culture and I might add, with the wide ranging support of many Business and local organizations, we transformed the downtown atmosphere to a unique and spirited Homecoming Festival. The town was alive, the faces were beaming, the tills were ringing, the Mood was Miraculous. As the Festival come to a close we were in a position to Donate from the funds accumulated, to a wide range of charities all over Glace Bay. So pleased were we, that just shy of $10,000. was donated to organizations like the GB Food bank, St, Vincent de Paul, Townhouse, Town Center, St. Paul's Church, and most poignantly, to the Mason Family , whose son Francis,at that very moment was seriously ill in a Foreign country, and in need of financial aid to get him home. The Feeling we got, from the decisions we made and the power it instilled in our hearts was un-measurable,totally indellible.
Fast forward to the present and look ahead to the summer of 2014, when, with long range planning, wide community involvement, Strong partnerships building, increased participation and Sponsorship at multiple levels, The proposed Come Home Festival , Namely:

"THE COALTOWN CLASSIC REUNION FESTIVAL"

The Coal Town Classic Reunion Festival, is a project that I feel the time has come to bring forward!
To do that will require: that many ingredients must blend together, with common understandings, and thus, a Spirit of Co-operation and partnering must prevail from the very outset.
Starting with a Forum of open dialogue, my suggestion perhaps, A Poor Mans Breakfast, with as many players from Community, Municipal, Business, Development, Culture, Political, Educational, and Core representation from all Neighbourhoods, we would then formulate and link everyone together, Construct and Stabilize a Guiding reference Panel of Key members of the community to keep the planning focused, contained, driven and productive, from start to finish.
I have chosen to reach out to, you, in this "Communique" as a preface to requesting your attendance, or a representative from your Group, Business, Organization, Neighbourhood et al. to hear out the Concept, discuss the methodolgy, consider your best point of Participation and allow for the planning and preparation.
From my perspective, I believe that we should formulate from the suggested Forum, a Panel of Men and Women , who by their inclusion will assist in guiding the process, keep the process in focus, and maintain the integrity of the project from beginning to end.
Therefore I humbly request that you make some time available on your calendar, for a Morning Breakfast at the GlaceBay FoodBank, On ................where we will take hold of this project....from the most Common of ground and Package it to be ready for the Throng of Homecoming Ex-patriates, who will invade our Hamlet in the Summer of 2014.
I have included a short PowerPoint with a preliminary overview of what we will Envision as our Goal.....Its "GlaceBay and Coal-Coal and GlaceBay"
Take the early Rake to the Surface, and leave a little something in your Can.....You can Share with your Buddies when you get there!

Planning a Come Home to The Bay Spectacular is a Project I firmly believe will Impact on 1000's of us, where-ever we are!

MOVING THIS PROPOSED COLABORATION OF WELL MEANT AND AREA WIDE CELEBRATIONS WOULD SURELY ALLOW YOU, AND THOUSANDS LIKE YOU TO RECONNECT.....BACK IN THE BAY,,,,IN JULY 2014....WHERE IT ALL BEGAN.
